Yemen Dawn operation disrupts Houthis, expert says
Government forces' Yemen Dawn offensive has unsettled Houthi militias, whose defensive efforts are likely to fail, a UK defense analyst says.
Key Takeaways
AIBaraa Shiban, a fellow at the Royal United Services Institute in the UK, said the government’s “Yemen Dawn” operation has disrupted Houthi militias, and their attempts to defend themselves are destined to fail.
Speaking to Al Hadath, Shiban added that the Houthis rely on isolating each front individually and exploiting internal divisions, as well as the lack of unified command centers among anti-Houthi forces.
He continued that if government forces can coordinate their operations, it could lead to the defeat of the Houthis, especially as the situation on the ground has changed significantly after a decade of repression by the group in areas under their control.
Shiban also noted that all of Yemen is being held hostage to the interests of Iran’s regime, and appears almost occupied in service of Iranian agendas that do not benefit Yemen. He said that when Tehran was compelled to use the Bab Al-Mandab issue, it mobilized the Houthis.
