Yemeni parliament approves general mobilization to counter Houthi escalation

Yemen’s parliament, chaired by Speaker Sultan Al-Barakani, has approved a request from the Presidential Leadership Council to declare general mobilization in response to the escalating Houthi threat.

The session reviewed a memorandum from Presidential Leadership Council Chairman and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Rashad Al-Alimi, addressed to parliament, seeking approval for the mobilization to confront Houthi escalation, protect citizens, defend the republican system and constitutional legitimacy, and safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state. The memorandum emphasized the national and constitutional responsibilities required at this critical stage, according to the Yemeni News Agency.

The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the country, stressing that the session comes at a critical and highly complex time for Yemen, requiring all parties to act with a sense of national responsibility and to overcome differences in order to unify national ranks.
