China on alert as Typhoon Noul approaches, public transport suspended

Chinese authorities have raised alert levels in several southern regions as Typhoon Noul intensified, bringing strong winds and heavy rain on Saturday. Officials suspended some public transport services and urged residents to avoid non-essential travel in anticipation of possible disruptions.

Forecasts indicate that the typhoon, the twelfth to hit China this year, is expected to make landfall along the coast between Hong Kong and the city of Lufeng in Guangdong province from Sunday evening through Monday morning.

The National Meteorological Center warned that the direct impact of the typhoon will affect Guangdong as well as the neighboring provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, and Hunan. Residents were advised to take necessary precautions, stay away from hazardous areas, and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

As a precaution, authorities have evacuated more than 340,000 people from Guangdong province and over 23,000 from Fujian, with preparations ongoing to address the typhoon's aftermath.
