Nepal flood death toll rises to 781 as search continues

Nepalese authorities have announced that the death toll from floods sweeping parts of the country has risen to 781, with more than 3,000 people still missing, as search and rescue operations continue for a fourth consecutive day.

Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate the missing and evacuate survivors to safe areas. Helicopter rescue operations have resumed in Nuwakot, one of the hardest-hit regions, after a temporary halt due to poor weather conditions.

According to Reuters, rescue teams are facing challenging field and weather conditions as they search for the missing and deliver aid to those affected. There are concerns that the death toll may rise further as more bodies are recovered and isolated areas are reached.

Around 100 rescue workers, police officers, and other officials have been assisting in documenting the identities of the deceased, photographing remains, and helping relatives identify and prepare bodies for burial.

Authorities in Nepal stated that every burial site has been carefully recorded, with identification markers placed both above and below ground and precise location data logged. DNA samples have been collected from unidentified bodies, allowing for future identification if families come forward or through official records or genetic testing.
