Iran: Oman talks do not signal reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that "negotiations with Oman do not mean the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened."

Araghchi added that "talks with the Sultanate of Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz are in their final stage, and there will be new routes in the strait."

Regarding the nature of the negotiations, the Iranian foreign minister clarified that "there are currently no direct talks with the United States; we are only exchanging messages through intermediaries."

Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesman Hossein Mohibi previously stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is part of Tehran's strategic strength and capabilities, and its reopening is not linked to Iran-Oman negotiations. He said the issue will only be discussed if the United States accepts Iran's stated conditions and stops interfering in regional relations.

Tensions continue to affect maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as Iran remains firm on its conditions for managing the strait. Despite signs of a potential breakthrough in negotiations, the situation was complicated again after Iran targeted an Emirati oil tanker on Saturday.
