Syria condemns Israeli defense minister's entry, demands troop withdrawal

Syria has condemned the entry of Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz into its territory today, saying his crossing of the international border constitutes a violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement issued from Damascus, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said these actions represent a breach of international law and the UN Charter, as well as a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, which requires respect for ceasefire lines and prohibits crossing them.

The ministry stressed that Damascus considers the Israeli defense minister's entry into Syrian territory "illegitimate," and reiterated its rejection of what it described as hostile actions involving the crossing of international borders.

Syria called on the international community to assume its legal and political responsibilities and take necessary measures to compel Israeli authorities to halt repeated violations.

Damascus also demanded the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian territory they have entered, a return to the disengagement line, and respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
