UN chief warns Middle East nearing point of losing control

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that the situation in the Middle East is slipping out of control and approaching a point of "no control."

In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Guterres stressed that there is no military solution to the current crises, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only way forward to prevent a wider conflict.

He underlined the importance of rejecting the use of force in geopolitical disputes, calling on Security Council members to act in a spirit of consensus and prioritize dialogue to resolve conflicts peacefully.

Guterres stated that targeting civilian infrastructure is "unacceptable," and called for an end to fighting across the Middle East.

He also urged the restoration of full rights and freedoms for international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, describing maritime security as essential for global stability.
