Rubio rules out new US strikes on Iran for now, Axios reports

Axios reported on Tuesday that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has informed several of his counterparts in allied countries over the past few days that the United States does not expect to launch new military strikes on Iran "at this time."

Citing a US official and another source familiar with the matter, the outlet said Washington instead plans to focus on other forms of pressure against Tehran, temporarily shifting from military options to non-military tools.

This move comes as the United States intensifies economic pressure on Iran, while diplomatic efforts continue to reach a resolution to the crisis.

The US naval blockade is depriving Iran of vital revenue. According to US officials, almost no oil tankers have been seen at Kharg Island—the main hub for Iranian oil exports—over the past two weeks.

US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott told Axios: "Iran's economy is in free fall, its military forces have suffered devastating blows, and we are cutting off every remaining financial lifeline to the regime."

He added: "The president has been clear that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon, and he will use all necessary tools to ensure that outcome."
