Chinese president Xi Jinping arrives in Washington for state visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday evening for a state visit to the United States, where he was welcomed at the airport by US President Donald Trump.

Xi's visit to the United States will continue until September 25 and is expected to feature ceremonies, celebrations, and a formal state dinner at the White House on Thursday, reflecting the reciprocal hospitality shown during Trump's visit to China last May.

Xi Jinping's first state visit to the United States took place in September 2015, when he visited Seattle, Washington, and New York, participating in events marking the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. He returned in 2016 for the fourth Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, met with President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida in 2017, and visited San Francisco in 2023 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
