Greek fighter jet crashes during airshow near Athens

A tragic incident occurred at Greece’s annual airshow on Saturday when a Greek Air Force F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed while performing at Tanagra Air Base, located north of Athens.

Footage circulating online showed smoke rising from the wreckage at Tanagra Air Base, as shocked spectators who had gathered to watch the show looked on.

According to local sources and eyewitnesses cited by Russia’s Sputnik, the twin-seat warplane suddenly went down just a few hundred meters from the runway, where thousands of people were present. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, leaving the crowd in shock.

Rescue teams and firefighting helicopters rushed to the scene to contain the blaze and secure the wreckage, while authorities cordoned off the area.

So far, no official statement has been issued regarding the technical reasons behind the crash or the fate of the two pilots on board.
