Rubio cites divisions in Iranian leadership, signals for talks with US

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said divisions are growing within the Iranian administration, noting that Washington is receiving signals from a faction within Iran's leadership expressing a desire to negotiate.

In comments to CNN, Rubio stated that these signals are coming through multiple channels, emphasizing that the US administration remains open to a genuine diplomatic path with Tehran.

He added that the United States bears the primary burden of safeguarding maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, even though most transiting vessels do not fly the American flag.

In the same context, Rubio explained that US military strikes are a direct response to what he described as Iranian actions, specifically the launching of missiles and drones targeting commercial ships.
