Saudi road code strengthens regulatory framework, says authority

The General Authority for Roads has stated that the Saudi Road Code strengthens the regulatory framework for the road sector.

The authority added on X that this aligns with its strategy, as the code sets standards covering the entire road lifecycle, from design and construction to operation and maintenance.

It noted that these standards include the entrances and exits of rest areas and fuel stations to regulate access and enhance safety, as well as signage, signal timings, and road markings to unify their meanings and organize road user movement.

The authority continued that the code also regulates pedestrian crossings and parking for people with disabilities, ensuring easy and safe access, as well as speed bumps and barriers, with criteria for their placement and effectiveness. It also covers work zones, detours, and excavation works through regulations that manage traffic and maintain site safety.
