Customs readiness and technology key to combating smuggling, says ZATCA spokesman

Hammoud Al-Harbi, spokesman for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, has emphasized the importance of the current state of readiness at Saudi customs entry points.

Speaking in an interview with Al Ekhbariya TV, Al-Harbi said that the preparedness of customs ports, their advanced technologies, and well-trained personnel play a crucial role in countering smuggling methods and protecting society from the scourge of drugs.

He added that all land, sea, and air entry points are fully prepared and equipped with modern security technologies. Al-Harbi noted that national staff receive extensive training, both on the job and through specialized courses, and highlighted ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority recently announced the foiling of an attempt to smuggle 1,950,581 amphetamine pills, which were hidden inside a shipment of lentils on a truck entering the Kingdom through the Al-Haditha border crossing.
