Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claims missile strike on US base in Jordan

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced in a statement carried by state media on Wednesday that it had launched ballistic missiles at what it described as a US base in the Azraq area of Jordan.

The Revolutionary Guard said the attack was in response to recent US strikes targeting Iranian oil tankers, adding that it had carried out intensive missile strikes on the base.

Iranian media reported that the attack also targeted hangars used for the maintenance, preparation, and deployment of US F-35, F-16, and F-15 fighter jets.

There has been no confirmation from Jordanian authorities so far regarding the attack or any resulting damage.

On Tuesday evening, the Revolutionary Guard warned that ships docked at Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports hosting US forces or personnel would be targeted in response to recent US attacks on Iranian oil tankers.

Iranian state media quoted the Revolutionary Guard Navy as urging crews of oil tankers near Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports to evacuate their vessels immediately, warning that they could be targeted.

US Central Command announced that American forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers on September 8, after the Revolutionary Guard had twice targeted a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles over two days.

CENTCOM said the US warship successfully evaded the Iranian attacks and that no US personnel were harmed. The incident followed earlier US strikes on Iranian oil tankers in response to Revolutionary Guard attacks on US warships.
