5.6-magnitude earthquake felt in Cairo and across Egypt

Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics announced on Monday that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck 61 kilometers northeast of Sharm El-Sheikh at 3 a.m.

The Egyptian Red Crescent said it activated its emergency plan in cities where residents felt the quake, adding that no reports of injuries or property damage had been received so far.

In a statement, the Red Crescent urged residents to "avoid approaching old buildings or those showing cracks," and to follow official updates as authorities continue to assess the situation.

Residents across Egyptian governorates reported feeling the tremor, which lasted several seconds. Many Egyptians shared posts on social media confirming they had experienced the quake in various areas.
