Yemen's government has called on the UN Security Council to condemn the targeting of government and service facilities, residential neighborhoods, civilian sites, and attacks on civilians by the Houthi militia, urging an immediate halt to these actions and accountability for their consequences.

The appeal came in two letters sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council President for October, Aglaia Balta, regarding the recent escalation by the Houthis and the attack on the Maashiq Presidential Palace in the interim capital, Aden.

In an official statement, the Yemeni Foreign Ministry said the attack, carried out with missiles and drones on October 15, killed five security personnel and wounded 16 others, describing the targeting of the presidential and government headquarters as an escalation threatening Yemen's security and stability.

The letters also highlighted Houthi attacks on residential neighborhoods and gatherings of displaced people in Marib, assaults on civilians and residential areas in Taiz and Lahj, and repeated attacks on Aden International Airport, warning of their impact on civilians and regional security.

The letters stressed the need for full implementation of Security Council Resolutions 2140 and 2216, practical measures to prevent the transfer of weapons, missiles, drones, and their components to the Houthi militia, and enhanced cooperation with the Yemeni government in information sharing, technical assistance, and capacity building.
