Iraqi prime minister's office urges completion of arms control plan

The office of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has emphasized the need to complete the procedures for the plan to confine all weapons to the authority of the Iraqi state.

It added that Al-Zaidi chaired a meeting of the National Security Council, during which the council decided to implement a comprehensive security plan to secure the country and counter any violations of Iraq's sovereignty, as well as to prevent any party from threatening neighboring countries.

The council reaffirmed the Iraqi government's commitment to promoting stability in the region, contributing effectively to international peace and security, and adopting a foreign policy based on dialogue, cooperation, respect for international law and the principles of good neighborliness. The council also stressed the use of diplomatic means to resolve disputes, following a strategic approach to keep Iraq out of regional conflicts in a way that safeguards its national interests and protects the security and sovereignty of its people.

The Iraqi government called on all parties to avoid actions that could further destabilize the region and undermine the rule of law plan adopted by the government since taking office.
