Yemeni army launches new drone brigade, targets Houthi positions in Marib

Yemen’s armed forces announced on Monday that the newly formed Sixth Drone Brigade has conducted its first operations, targeting Houthi positions, gatherings, and personnel in the Al-Kasara area, west of Marib province.

According to Al Arabiya, this move comes as the military expands its use of drones in operations this August, aiming to strike Houthi sites, fortifications, vehicles, and gatherings across several battlefronts.

The Yemeni military said the drone operations have spanned multiple fronts, including Hajjah, Saada, Al-Jawf, and Marib, and have reached as far as Shabwa, Al-Dhalea, Lahij, Taiz, and Hodeidah, signaling a broader deployment of aerial capabilities in support of ground forces.

Yemeni Deputy Defense Minister Samir Al-Subari recently announced that two drone brigades have become operational, coinciding with efforts to boost readiness and enhance the army’s training, armament, and qualification programs.

He affirmed that the armed forces have made progress in building combat capabilities and have addressed several vulnerabilities previously exploited by Houthi forces, especially around the Marib Dam area. He indicated that the coming phase could see more powerful military operations as command is unified across different forces and fronts, with preparations underway to open new battlefronts.
