Pakistan PM: US-Iran memorandum offers viable path to peace

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran offers the most viable path toward peace.

Sharif added that Islamabad and Tehran hope to work together to promote regional peace and de-escalate tensions, noting that both sides exchange information on key issues during meetings with Iranian officials.

His comments come amid renewed military tensions in the region after US forces struck Iranian positions, prompting Iran to retaliate with strikes on the UAE and Jordan.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant warned Iran of further sanctions unless it returns to negotiations without preconditions, but Iran insists on its right to control passage through the Strait of Hormuz and to impose transit fees.
