US Central Command denies tanker hit mines in Strait of Hormuz, accuses Iran of intimidation

US Central Command has denied claims by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that a giant oil tanker crossing the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz struck two mines and came to a complete stop.

The command said the Revolutionary Guard’s allegation was baseless, confirming that no ships had hit mines in the Strait of Hormuz. It described the claim as another attempt by the Revolutionary Guard to intimidate commercial shipping in the region by spreading disinformation.

Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had alleged that a vessel violated a designated route in the Strait of Hormuz and struck naval mines, warning all ships against entering what it called “illegal” routes. The Guard also urged passing vessels not to respond to what it described as US military provocations.
