German police defuse drone carrying explosive at Leipzig/Halle Airport

German police have defused a drone carrying an explosive device at Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany.

The Saxony State Criminal Investigation Office reported that specialists removed the ignition mechanism from the explosive, the type of which has not yet been identified.

A second unidentified flying object also struck a cargo plane after it was forced to take off again due to an earlier runway closure. Upon landing in Hanover, the aircraft was found to have sustained minor damage.

Authorities are investigating whether the two incidents are connected, and confirmed there is currently no immediate danger.
