Yemenis in The Hague demand Houthi terrorist designation

Dozens of Yemenis staged a protest on Monday outside the International Court of Justice in The Hague, western Netherlands, demanding that the Houthis be designated a terrorist organization and urging support for the Yemeni government to restore state authority and safeguard international shipping and interests.

Fighting between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognized government has intensified since July. The militia has recently advanced along the Red Sea coast, seizing the key port city of Mokha and islands in the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern entrance to the Red Sea more than a week ago.

Yemeni forces have said they will redeploy, stressing that strikes and clashes against the Houthis will continue on all fronts.

The Yemeni government has warned that Houthi advances near Bab al-Mandab pose a threat to international maritime navigation.

Meanwhile, the Houthis announced on Saturday that 73 of their fighters, including 25 officers, had been killed, according to the latest funeral announcements published by their media. This brings the number of Houthi fighters whose funerals have been publicly announced since mid-July to 413.
