US to upgrade 'Hawkeye' surveillance aircraft with advanced capabilities

The United States is planning to design 12 additional upgraded surveillance aircraft known as the 'Hawkeye,' which are considered vital to the strength of its aircraft carrier fleet.

The US Navy has awarded a specialized company a contract worth nearly $1.2 billion to supply three E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Block II aircraft, according to Asharq.

The work will primarily be carried out at the company's facilities in Melbourne, as well as at other locations in several states, with completion of the new aircraft expected by the end of 2031.

The aircraft is used to track potential threats, guide friendly aircraft, extend radar range, and coordinate operations between naval, air, and other joint forces.
