Palestinian foreign minister: Our people face unprecedented threats to identity and future

Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin said today that the Palestinian people are facing the most serious attempts to erase their identity, rights, and future.

Speaking at the Arab foreign ministers' meeting on Jerusalem in Amman, Shahin said, "The future of Jerusalem and the Palestinian state no longer depends solely on the justice of our cause, but also on the decisions we make. Every practical step we take brings us closer to the just peace we all seek."

She stressed that "Jerusalem is the heart of Palestine and the key to any just and comprehensive peace. It is a sacred trust shared by the Arab and Islamic worlds, and if we fail to defend it, the loss will be far greater than just Jerusalem."

For his part, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said, "Israeli provocative policies are targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque with unprecedented systematic attacks."

Safadi called on the international community: "We urge the international community to act decisively to stop Israeli violations in Jerusalem and end policies that entrench the occupation in the West Bank."
