Yemen’s Deputy Minister of Education Ali Al-Abbab said the Houthi militia has destroyed the country’s education system.

In an interview with Al Hadath TV, Al-Abbab explained that the decision to suspend classes in Taiz was made to safeguard students’ lives, as conditions are no longer suitable for schooling. He said the measure aims to protect students from health, psychological, and ideological risks.

He added that the Houthis have targeted education since their 2014 coup, displacing 2.5 million students in recent years. Al-Abbab noted that Houthi advances into several Taiz districts have led to a halt in educational activities.

The deputy minister also said the Houthis disregard laws and agreements, forcing students in schools to embrace violence, carry weapons, and participate in deadly conflicts. He stressed the need to return all students to their classrooms.
