US official: Trump administration urged Syria to show restraint after Israeli airstrikes

A US official said the administration of President Donald Trump called on the Syrian government to exercise restraint following Israeli airstrikes that targeted sites inside Syria.

The official told Axios that Washington believes the Israeli strikes in Syria are partly driven by election-related considerations, adding that the US administration is closely monitoring developments and seeking to limit the risk of further escalation.

The official also revealed that Syria requested the activation of a joint coordination center to prevent escalation with Israel, as part of efforts to contain tensions and avoid further confrontations.
