France to expel two Iranian diplomats in coming days

France's foreign minister has announced that the country will expel two Iranian diplomats in the coming days, without providing further details about the decision.

Meanwhile, Iran's foreign ministry stated it has informed two staff members at the French embassy in Tehran that they are persona non grata and has barred them from entering the country.

In a related development, Iran said on Monday that the French employees were involved in a diplomatic dispute last month and will not be allowed to return to the Islamic Republic.

Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's foreign ministry, explained that the employees violated the Vienna Convention, which outlines the rules and privileges of diplomatic missions, by engaging in activities supporting Iranian civil society.

Baghaei added during a weekly press conference that insisting these individuals were involved in civil society support activities amounts to an admission of a breach of the Vienna Convention, without offering further details.
