Medvedev says US sanctions on Russia require military deterrence

Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said Moscow's response to the latest US sanctions should include "military deterrence."

US President Donald Trump signed a law yesterday imposing new sanctions aimed at increasing pressure on Russia over the war in Ukraine, following months of delays in Congress.

The legislation, named after the late US Senator Lindsey Graham, targets Russia's energy and defense sectors, as well as individuals including President Vladimir Putin and other senior officials.

According to Al Arabiya, Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said on Telegram: "Even across the ocean, they understand only the language of direct military deterrence. This is the language we should use in response to anti-Russian acts such as the law named after the late terrorist Graham."
