Trump: alternative oil pipelines may reduce Strait of Hormuz’s future role

The Middle East is moving to expand oil transport routes away from the Strait of Hormuz, with accelerated construction of new networks and pipelines, and increased reliance on overland routes for crude and petroleum products, according to US President Donald Trump.

In press statements, Trump said the region is witnessing extensive construction of numerous oil pipelines, providing alternative energy transport routes and reducing total dependence on vital maritime corridors.

He explained that the region’s geography offers multiple strategic options for transporting oil away from the Strait of Hormuz, adding that having several routes lessens the impact of any attempt to threaten oil flows or impose a blockade on energy movement to international markets.

Trump also noted a rise in overland oil transport, pointing to trucks and tankers carrying crude and petroleum products across Syrian territory, as part of routes used to secure alternative supplies and meet operational needs.

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions over maritime security, as Washington and its allies focus on diversifying energy export routes and reducing global supply exposure to regional disruptions.

The move to expand pipelines and overland routes reflects efforts to reduce the sensitivity of oil flows to potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains one of the world’s key maritime energy corridors.
