Syria condemns Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights

Syria has strongly condemned the statement by the Colombian government recognizing what it called "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, describing the move as based on security pretexts that do not align with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

In a statement published by the Syrian Arab News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed its categorical rejection of this position, stressing that the Golan is an integral part of Syrian territory. The ministry said the Colombian government's statement constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, as well as statements by the UN Secretary-General affirming that the Golan is Syrian land and that the United Nations unequivocally recognizes it as part of Syria. The ministry also cited the principle prohibiting the acquisition of territory by force and referenced the 1981 UN Security Council resolution.

The ministry praised the growing international support for Syria's legitimate rights in the occupied Golan, reflecting continued global backing for Syria's right to reclaim its occupied land and rejection of any attempt to legitimize or recognize the occupation and its consequences.

Syria's Foreign Ministry reiterated its firm rejection of ongoing Israeli attacks and incursions into Syrian territory, calling on all countries and international organizations to fulfill their responsibilities in upholding international law and UN resolutions. The ministry affirmed Syria's commitment to using legitimate diplomatic and legal means to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and established rights, and to work towards regaining its occupied lands.
