Trump surprises tech sector with plan for 'AI force': Politico

Donald Trump's announcement of plans to create an 'AI force' has taken the US technology sector by surprise, as most company representatives were reportedly unaware of the initiative or its details.

According to Politico, four technology industry officials said Trump's announcement on the Truth Social platform came without broad consultation or disclosure of the plan's specifics to the sector.

One source noted that no one knew what the initiative would actually entail, while another said, 'Most industry representatives were not asked for their opinions on the matter.'

On Saturday, Trump said he intends to appoint a senior official for artificial intelligence, to be called the 'AI czar,' and to establish an 'AI force' modeled after the Space Force.

The former US president also expressed his belief that artificial intelligence could contribute up to 25% of the country's gross domestic product.

The announcement comes amid growing debate in the US over the potential risks of AI. Two employees at Anthropic, an AI company, estimated there is a 10% chance that artificial intelligence could wipe out humanity within the next ten years.

In the same context, a Public First poll commissioned by Politico found that 78% of Americans believe human extinction due to AI is a possibility.
