Yemen condemns Houthi attacks on King Salman Center aid projects in Al-Khawkhah, western coast

Yemen's Ministry of Human Rights has strongly condemned the looting, attacks, and threats carried out by Houthi militias against humanitarian and medical facilities and programs funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in Al-Khawkhah district and areas along the western coast. The attacks have targeted medical clinics, warehouses for food and medicine, as well as water and shelter projects, putting essential humanitarian services at risk of complete shutdown.

In a statement on its official X account, the ministry said these assaults directly target the humanitarian and relief efforts led by the King Salman Center and its partners to support civilians and displaced people in affected areas. The ministry warned that the attacks threaten to deprive thousands of people of access to healthcare, food, water, and shelter amid extremely difficult humanitarian conditions in Al-Khawkhah and the western coastal regions.

The ministry stressed that targeting medical and humanitarian facilities, attacking their staff, looting aid and supplies, or obstructing their delivery to those in need constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law—especially the rules protecting civilians, humanitarian workers, medical facilities, and ensuring safe, regular, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The ministry warned of the serious consequences if such practices continue, including the potential suspension of health, relief, water, and shelter programs funded by the King Salman Center, which would worsen the suffering of civilians and displaced persons, especially women, children, the sick, and the most vulnerable groups.

The Ministry of Human Rights expressed its appreciation for the humanitarian and relief work carried out by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in Yemen, noting that its vital interventions have helped alleviate the suffering of millions. The ministry emphasized that targeting the Center’s projects, partners, and facilities does not only harm the donor, but directly impacts the lives of civilians and their right to basic services.

The ministry called on the United Nations—particularly the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Programme, relevant UN agencies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and international organizations operating in Yemen—to clearly condemn these attacks, help document them, and take necessary measures to protect humanitarian facilities, staff, and programs, ensuring their continued operation and safe delivery of services to beneficiaries without threat or interference.

The ministry affirmed it will continue, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, local authorities, and relevant government bodies, to monitor and document these violations, communicate with concerned UN and international entities, and work to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, ensuring the continuity of essential services in Al-Khawkhah and the western coastal areas.
