Bahrain and Kuwait condemn Iranian attack on Saudi oil tanker in Hormuz

Bahrain has strongly condemned and denounced the Iranian attack targeting the Saudi oil tanker 'Sidr' as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in fatalities among the crew.

The kingdom stated that this assault represents a serious threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and the freedom of commercial shipping, and constitutes a blatant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2817, as well as decisions of the International Maritime Organization.

The ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all measures taken to safeguard its security, the safety of its citizens, and its vital interests. This stance stems from the deep-rooted fraternal and historical ties between the leaderships and peoples of the two countries, and underscores that Saudi Arabia’s security and stability are integral to Bahrain’s own national security.

The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its call for the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and take necessary action to halt Iranian attacks that threaten the safety of maritime navigation and freedom of passage in the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways. It also called for enhanced regional and international cooperation and coordination, including joint efforts to clear mines and maritime hazards, in order to protect ships and their crews, ensure the free and smooth flow of trade and energy, and strengthen security and stability in the region.

Kuwait also expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker 'Sidr' as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in fatalities among the crew. Kuwait described the incident as a flagrant violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies.

In a statement on Monday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and adherence to international law guaranteeing freedom of navigation, affirming its rejection of any attack on the security and safety of maritime navigation.

Kuwait reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, standing by its side and supporting all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security, and interests.
