Lebanese army: Israeli attacks impede southern deployment

The Lebanese army has stated that Israeli forces continue their attacks and violations of agreements by systematically destroying and bulldozing homes in southern Lebanon.

The army added that the ongoing Israeli assaults are obstructing the full deployment of its forces according to existing agreements. It noted that Israeli troops have fired near Lebanese army positions in Kfar Tibnit, Nabatieh Fawka, and Zawtar Al-Gharbiya, according to a statement published by the National News Agency.

The Lebanese army further reported that Israeli forces have seized debris in border areas, destroyed the water project belonging to the Litani River National Authority in the town of Markaba – Marjayoun, and set fire to centuries-old olive trees and large agricultural areas, most recently on the outskirts of Aitaroun – Bint Jbeil. These actions have coincided with gunfire near army positions in Kfar Tibnit, Nabatieh Fawka, and Zawtar Al-Gharbiya, hampering the army’s operations.

The army also said its forces continue to support the return of residents to Zawtar Al-Gharbiya and are carrying out their duties in the town to ensure civilian safety, as well as in the areas of Frun and Srifa, in coordination with the Lebanon Military Coordination Group.
Previously, Lebanese Army Commander Joseph Aoun presented a plan to then-US President Donald Trump during Aoun’s recent visit to the United States. The plan aimed to ensure all weapons are under state control and to end Hezbollah’s independent military status, as part of implementing Lebanese-Israeli agreements and restoring full state authority over Lebanese territory.
