Trump map sparks diplomatic row with Iceland as US ambassador summoned

Iceland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the US ambassador after former President Donald Trump shared a map depicting Iceland within the United States' borders, a move Reykjavik deemed inappropriate.

On Tuesday, the ministry said Foreign Minister Thordis Katrin Gunnarsdottir summoned the US ambassador and delivered a "clear message that the image was entirely inappropriate."

On Monday, Trump posted on social media an image of a map showing Canada, Greenland, Mexico, and Iceland colored with the American flag.

The Iceland map is part of a series of maps and posts Trump has recently shared, reflecting a broader vision of US influence in the Western Hemisphere, alongside moves to rename geographic locations with overtly American names.

In his latest post on Truth Social, Trump published an expanded map of the United States that included Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Mexico, Cuba, parts of Central America, and the Caribbean, illustrating his ambitious vision for American influence.
