Thailand summons Israeli ambassador over tourists’ behavior

The Thai government has summoned Alona Fisher-Kamm, the Israeli ambassador in Bangkok, to protest the reckless behavior of some Israeli tourists and residents, warning that such actions could threaten bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow called the ambassador to the ministry, where he expressed the Thai government’s dissatisfaction and concern over the conduct of certain Israelis in the country.

The minister stated that while Thailand welcomes tourists, hospitality does not entitle visitors to behave as they please. He emphasized that all tourists, including Israelis, must respect Thai culture and values, just as Thais traveling abroad are expected to respect the laws and customs of their host countries.

The meeting with the Israeli ambassador addressed incidents and misconduct involving Israeli nationals visiting Thailand for both short and long stays.

These incidents, involving both tourists and residents, have offended Thai sensibilities regarding their culture, traditions, and way of life. The discussions also covered violations and illegal activities committed by Israeli citizens in Thailand.

The minister made it clear to the ambassador that Thai law will be enforced strictly and without discrimination against any Israeli or foreign national who breaks the country’s regulations.
