Kremlin warns against '40-day strike plans' targeting Russia

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russia places its national security as its top priority, stressing the need to prevent any party from daring to announce plans to strike Russia.

Peskov's remarks came in response to comments by President Vladimir Putin, who stated that Moscow would be guided by its national interests in matters related to a settlement with Ukraine.

Peskov noted that Russia's national interests are well known, and that the country must ensure its security and work to prevent any party from declaring plans to deliver a decisive blow to Russia within forty days—a reference to statements from Kyiv.

He added that these measures are at the core of Russia's national interests.

It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky approved a 40-day campaign to pressure Russia into ending the war three months ago, after consulting with the head of Ukraine's security service regarding strikes on Russian targets.

Ukraine has for months been carrying out medium- and long-range strikes on targets inside Russia or in Russian-controlled areas, with a particular focus on the oil sector.
