US tells Iran it cannot set conditions on Strait of Hormuz: Axios

Axios has reported that the United States informed Iran it does not control the Strait of Hormuz and therefore cannot set conditions regarding its use, according to Al Arabiya.

Axios cited a US official as saying that positive and constructive talks are ongoing between Washington and Tehran through intermediaries, despite former President Donald Trump rejecting Iran's proposal. The official added that nearly 60 million barrels of oil have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 72 hours.

Earlier, Iran announced it had submitted a plan to Washington to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if certain conditions were met, with negotiations between the two countries to resume after the reopening. However, the US president rejected the Iranian proposal, stressing that Tehran is suffering significant losses due to the closure of the strait.

Trump said Iran wants to reach a deal, but described the proposal as unacceptable. He added that the United States has imposed "the largest blockade in military history" and established a "wall of steel" around the Strait of Hormuz.
