Yemeni government pledges cooperation with coalition to secure waterways

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi has reaffirmed his government's commitment to working with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy to protect key maritime corridors.

Writing on X, Al-Alimi said Houthi militias and their backers persistently gamble with the interests of the Yemeni people and plunge the country into successive crises to serve the Iranian regime’s agenda, whenever opportunities for de-escalation arise. He stressed that the will and aspirations of Yemenis for statehood, dignity, security, and stability are not bargaining chips and never will be.

He added that the Yemeni government reiterates its pledge to work closely with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy and its international partners to firmly deter threats, secure maritime passages, and combat terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime. He described these efforts as a national responsibility and an absolute commitment to Yemen’s security, regional stability, and global peace.

Al-Alimi also stated that the Houthi militias must realize they have no option but to heed the will of the Yemeni people. He warned that their continued escalation only wastes time and depletes the country’s remaining resources, without changing Yemenis’ determination to end the coup and restore state authority across the entire nation.

According to the BBC, Iran has asked the Houthis to be ready to close the strait if Iranian energy infrastructure comes under US attack.
