Analyst: IRGC preparing Somali Ansar Allah militia to threaten Red Sea
Military analyst Yahya Al-Hatami says Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is backing a new Somali militia to tighten control over both sides of the Red Sea.
Key Takeaways
AIMilitary analyst Brig. Gen. Yahya Al-Hatami said that, in his assessment, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is preparing a new militia called the “Somali Ansar Allah” to tighten its grip on both sides of the Red Sea. He noted that this militia is present in the Burma area of Somalia and that its activities support Yemen’s Houthi group.
Speaking to Al Arabiya FM, Al-Hatami explained that Yemeni armed forces are working to deplete Houthi capabilities and neutralize their advanced weaponry, amid escalating military operations and ongoing attacks on civilian sites and vital infrastructure.
He added that the Yemeni military is adopting new tactics and strategies aimed at reducing the Houthis’ ability to use ballistic missiles and drones against civilians, civil facilities, and airports.
The analyst pointed out that, in his view, increased military pressure on the Houthis may push them to intensify their use of missiles and advanced weapons. He noted that attacks have targeted the provinces of Taiz, Aden, and Mukalla, despite their distance from the main conflict zones.
Al-Hatami stated that Al-Dhaba port and Riyan airport have been targeted by more than four ballistic missiles, stressing that Yemeni forces are working to neutralize the Houthis’ advanced weapons, destroy missile and drone stockpiles, and eliminate workshops and command centers.
