Xi, Trump stress importance of respect and fairness, says China

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping agreed to strengthen communication across the economic, trade, financial, and law enforcement sectors, and stressed the importance of "respect, fairness, and equality."

According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, cited by Al-Sharq, Trump and Xi agreed on the need for Iran to uphold its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, and that no country or entity should impose transit fees on international waterways, in the framework of an eight-point consensus reached during Xi's visit to the United States.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also announced that the two leaders agreed to build a "stable and constructive strategic relationship between China and the United States, based on respect, fairness, and equality."

Earlier today, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated that the presidents agreed on the necessity for Iran to honor its pledge not to pursue nuclear weapons, and that no country or institution should levy transit charges on international maritime passages, in the framework of an eight-point consensus reached during Xi's US visit.

It is noteworthy that the United States and China agreed to exempt certain essential goods from trade disputes, including agricultural and medical device exports to China, as well as imports of consumer and non-sensitive goods.
