Deir Ezzor airport reopens after 14-year closure, flights resume

Syria's General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport announced on Wednesday the reopening of Deir Ezzor International Airport, following the completion of maintenance and rehabilitation works. Domestic and international flights have resumed after a suspension lasting nearly 14 years.

The authority stated that the airport received its first domestic flight operated by Syrian Airlines from Damascus International Airport, marking the start of regular services between the two cities. It also welcomed its first international flight from Kuwait, also operated by Syrian Airlines, signaling the resumption of international operations to and from the airport.

The authority added that the launch of these routes is part of efforts to expand the air network, revive domestic air travel, facilitate passenger movement, support economic and investment activity, and strengthen connections between Syrian provinces and with other countries.
