Nabil Al-Atoum, director of the Iranian Studies Program, explained the reasons behind the latest escalation between the United States and Iran.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Atoum said that the US strikes on Iranian sites are part of American efforts to exhaust Iran’s military capabilities and ensure that the Strait of Hormuz is not targeted again.

He added that the US strikes targeted a highly sensitive location at the eastern entrance of the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to weaken Iran’s ability to disrupt the waterway and to reaffirm Washington’s commitment to securing maritime navigation.

Al-Atoum noted that the strikes hit an integrated network of Iranian capabilities and could signal the start of broader military operations by the United States, while Iran’s response is intended to demonstrate its determination and ability to confront such actions.
