Syria expects to resume security talks with Israel soon, says foreign minister

Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Al-Shibani said his country does not trust Israel, but expressed his expectation that talks on a security agreement would resume soon.

Al-Shibani noted that communications with Israel were suspended after its attack on the Abu Al-Duhur airbase on August 18, stressing that the priority is to halt Israeli strikes on Syrian territory, according to Reuters.

He added that Syria is extending its hand to diplomacy and called on Israel to seize this historic opportunity, noting that Israel has tried to secure its interests through force but has not succeeded anywhere.
