Yemeni official: Houthis serve as Iranian proxy to increase regional pressure

Zaafaran Zayed, an adviser at Yemen's Ministry of Human Rights, said the Houthis act as an Iranian proxy and a tool for increased pressure in Yemen and the region.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM radio, she added that the Houthis are now being used to pressure the international community, acting as instruments for Tehran, with Iranian leaders present among them to provide guidance.

She further noted that many experts have entered Houthi-controlled areas under the pretense of humanitarian and relief work, but are actually members of Lebanon's Hezbollah and affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

It is worth noting that terrorist operations carried out by the Houthi militia in Yemen have complicated the situation, particularly following their attempts to escalate attacks against international shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.
