UN envoy warns of Houthi escalation in Mokha

The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has expressed deep concern over recent attacks by Houthi militias on the city of Mokha, which resulted in civilian and military casualties and caused damage to infrastructure, including the port.

Grundberg noted that these attacks mark an unprecedented escalation in military operations since the UN-brokered truce in 2022, warning that this escalation sharply increases the risk of a return to large-scale conflict in Yemen.

The UN envoy pointed out that the latest attacks have put civilians in Mokha, Marib, and other areas at serious risk, stressing the need to halt escalation and protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Grundberg reiterated his call for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and de-escalate, emphasizing the importance of ending the conflict through an inclusive political process.
