Israeli military launches pilot phase of safe zone in southern Lebanon

The Israeli military announced on Monday the launch of the pilot phase for a safe zone project in southern Lebanon, in cooperation with US Central Command and the Lebanese army.

According to the Israeli military, the experimental safe zone covers areas in southern Lebanon under a US-backed agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The agreement calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the deployment of Lebanese troops in these areas.

The Israeli military added that it would respond forcefully to any violation of the agreement, reaffirming its commitment to the terms in coordination with the relevant parties.
