IAEA chief: no current information on Iran’s nuclear sites or materials

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi said on Monday that the agency has not received any recent information from Iran regarding the status of its declared nuclear materials and facilities, nor has it been able to access them for field verification.

Speaking before the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna, Grossi explained that this situation has prevented the agency from fulfilling its safeguards responsibilities at Iran’s declared nuclear sites and from verifying the status of related nuclear materials.

Grossi noted that for over a year, the agency has lost “continuity of knowledge” regarding Iran’s declared stocks of low-enriched uranium and uranium enriched up to 60 percent U-235, at facilities affected by military attacks in June 2025.

He described the lack of information and inability to verify as “a serious proliferation concern,” urging that the situation be addressed with utmost urgency.

Grossi added that the absence of access and information has prevented the agency from assessing Iran’s implementation of relevant provisions of UN Security Council resolutions and Board of Governors decisions issued in November last year and June this year.

He called on Iran to cooperate “constructively” with the agency to enable the full and effective implementation of safeguards under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Grossi stressed that “a return to diplomacy and negotiations” is essential to resolve issues related to Iran’s nuclear program, expressing the agency’s readiness to support such efforts and warning of the implications for the global non-proliferation regime.
