Trump confronts CNN reporters at UN: 'You shouldn't be here'

US President Donald Trump confronted CNN reporters upon his arrival at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday, where he was attending the General Assembly meetings. The encounter came just days after his administration restricted the network’s access to the White House.

As Trump entered the UN building with his wife Melania, he turned to the CNN reporters and said: "I'm surprised CNN is here to cover me. You shouldn't be here. You said you wouldn't cover me. You shouldn't cover me."

The exchange took place in front of a group of journalists as CNN correspondents prepared to report on the president’s arrival, using microphones and phones.

Last Friday, the Trump administration barred reporters from CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from entering the White House, citing what it described as the publication of "fake news."

The three media organizations responded that they would challenge the decision in court, relying on protections for press freedom under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

The US measures also included preventing CNN from participating in the "television pool" assigned to cover the president’s movements. Other networks declined to take CNN’s place in covering Trump’s trip to New York for the UN General Assembly meetings.

The confrontation between Trump and CNN reporters comes as the General Assembly opens, with the US president set to address world leaders on key international issues, including the conflict with Iran, developments in Yemen, and the war in Ukraine.
