GCC chief, UN secretary-general discuss regional developments in New York

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres received Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, on the sidelines of Albudaiwi’s participation in the UN Security Council’s high-level open debate in New York, USA.

The meeting addressed several topics, most notably the latest regional developments and their impact on regional and international security, stability, and the economy.

During the meeting, the GCC Secretary-General stressed that Iran’s ongoing attacks against GCC states and systematic targeting of infrastructure demonstrate its intent to destabilize security and undermine peace efforts. He emphasized the importance of putting an end to these attacks and deterring Iran from continuing its aggressive policies to safeguard international peace and security.

The UN Secretary-General reiterated his solidarity with GCC states against Iranian attacks and the need to halt actions that threaten security and stability.

The two officials also exchanged views on a number of regional issues and ongoing efforts, in addition to ways to strengthen cooperation between the GCC and the United Nations.
